The inheritance of legacy
Throughout my time in the non-denominational church, many times I would hear messages about leaving a legacy for those who would come behind. "Raising a standard, leaving a memorial" became a mantra for those who called this church home. But what standard was raised? What was the memorial which was left?
This evening, I heard a young evangelist, yes only 19 years of age, preach a message on not giving up on your inheritance. Throughout the message, he shared how men of God had raised that standard before him. Men such as his father and his pastor, that many times while facing adversity, would stand to declare the Word of God. He made the declaration that he wanted the spirit of his pastor to be upon him in life, the inheritance received from a spiritual father to a son. But there is more there than an inheritance here, it is the legacy.
His pastor's testimony is not mine to share, but what I have heard can only be defined as miraculous. God has had His hand up on this man of God and is using him to, as my old church said, raise a standard to leave that memorial. God is building a legacy in and through the church that this young evangelist has only just begun to comprehend. He is a part of his pastor's legacy as he awaits the inheritance.
Legacy -the long-lasting impact of particular events, actions, etc. that took place in the past, or of a person’s life.
Inheritance-property or any possession that comes to an heir: often given upon death.
As Bro. Danny preached under the anointing of the Holy Ghost this evening, he shared a lot geared towards the young folks and those who have the legacy of being raised Apostolic. That heritage is deep inside so many who call our church home, most being a part for many years if they were not born into it.
For me, I was not brought up Apostolic so I do not have that legacy to fall back on. I have, however, been grafted into this legacy through Jesus Christ. As a child of God, I have the same inheritance as if I had been here all along. The inheritance that those who were born and raised in this way of life has is mine as well, as long as I stay on the narrow path.
The legacy that Jesus Christ laid out throughout His ministry is the same that I am able to partake of today. Jesus said the things He did and greater would I be able to do because He was sending the Holy Ghost (Comforter). That is my inheritance. This is not just for me though. It is for anyone that will follow the Acts 2:38 plan of repentance, baptism in Jesus' name and infilling of the Holy Ghost.
What will you leave behind when you are gone? A few dollars or some property to your family? Or will you leave your own legacy of inheritance that will transcend all time?
