Holy Habitation
For years, I have listened to a song that I learned while in a previous church. I have loved the song and the meaning that I felt was behind it. The song was titled Holy Visitation written and sang by Rita Springer. I'm sure many in the non-denominational as well as AG and COG have heard this song and worshipped to it. The premise of the song is the Spirit of God coming back to the people with a holy visitation. But do we need just a visitation?
1 Corinthians 6:19 says, "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" 1 Corinthians 3:16 says "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" This tells you that there is a need for more than just a need for a visit.
Think of it in the sense of a child. If a parent has custody of a child, that child lives in the home of the parent. They dwell within the home and have access to everything inside at all times. If a parent has shared custody due to a divorce or other situation, there are only weekend visits. The child has a room and things within that belong to him/her but really never calls it home. They feel like a visitor even though they are "home". When you repent of your sins, go down into that water of baptism in Jesus name and receive the precious gift of the Holy Ghost, there is no more "weekend visits" that need to be scheduled. The Holy Ghost takes up residence and has all rights and authorities over your life.
In the years I was in my previous church, we had those times of visitation. We only wanted the Holy Ghost to move on a schedule. After all, there was a clock on the service that dictated what was done when with little to no time for a true move of God. There was no tarrying, no waiting. If it didn't happen within the first 5-10 minutes of the quickly done alter call during the second song of worship service, it wasn't going to happen.
I have learned the habitation is much sweeter. The Holy Ghost dwelling within and giving you peace even in the midst of the greatest storms is amazing. As I sat in a waiting room anxiously waiting for an update from surgery on my husband, there was peace because the Master of the house was at home. I had not left Him outside knocking to be let in.
