mosh pit mentality instead of a heart of worship

Back several years ago, I wrote a study which I entitled "Moved by the Music."  I took an in-depth view at music and what it was that causes it to have such a pull over us. What I found was rather eye opening.

Think for a moment, how many different songs have you ever had that just seemed to get stuck in your head?  What was it that got stuck first, the melodious beat or the words?  Most of the time, it is the beat first because you find yourself just humming the tune out of nowhere.  Before you know it, you are adding in a word here or there before belting out the tune like a star (of your shower of course).  But why do these melodies seem to move us seemingly effortlessly? As the snake charmer charms the snake into a tranquil state, so too has another charmer been at work.

Lucifer, by many accounts, was the worship leader in heaven. Of all the created beings, he was the most beautiful. Ezekiel 28:11-15 describes him, " Moreover the word of the Lord came into me, saying, Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord God; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast up on the Holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou was perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee."

Could you imagine what he must have looked like?  All those precious jewels covering his exterior, tabrets would be like tambourines and pipes were wind instruments. His whole being was created as an instrument to worship God. With that being said, do you not believe that as such he would know everything there is to know about the hypnotizing, mesmerizing world of our music today? The seductive, lewd beats that sees our young people grinding on each other, the whimsical beats with vulgar words that easily get stuck in your head for you to replay over and over out of boredom.

Now think about those beats and the feeling they ignite within you and put that beat or rhythm next to your favorite worship song right now. Do you move to the music only because of the beat? Are you moved because of the words? Or are you simply moved by a heart that longs to worship God? What does the old song say, " When the music fades, All is stripped away, And I simply come. Longin' just to bring Something that's of worth That will bless Your heart I'll bring You more than a song For a song in itself Is not what You have required You search much deeper within Through the ways things appear
You're looking into my heart I'm comin' back to the heart of worship And it's all about You It's all about You, Jesus I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You It's all about You, Jesus."

Let's put aside that mosh pit mentality where we look for the "sick beats" and get back to seeking the heart of worship, Jesus. Let His heartbeat be the rhythm that we seek.
