Oil field
I'm sitting here tonight after getting off work and I just had the greatest experience with God. I'm not in a church building but sitting in my bed at home getting ready to go to sleep, just thinking over my day. I woke up today and began to sing, something I haven't done in quite some time. My time off doing ushered me to a time of prayer.
As I was talking with a friend tonight when I got in, I had a vision based off of the blog I wrote last evening about running on empty. All across America, well the world for that matter, you have gas stations where you go for a fill-up. You have your favorite store or favorite brand of fuel so you remain faithful going to the same place over and over each time your tank gets empty. It's on your way so you have it planned out perfectly to know exactly when you have to stop before you run out. You even push your limits just a bit to remain loyal to your store and your brand. But what happens when you pull up and you see the dreaded yellow or red bag covering the handle, "Out of Fuel"? You coasted in on fumes, now what?
Have you kept enough in reserve to make it to the next station, maybe a mile or two away? Or are you at the mercy of someone with a gas can that is willing to get you down the road? Are you walking to your destination because there is no one to help you out?
As I sat here reading over what I wrote just 24 hours ago, I saw not a gas station but an oil field. The oil in the ground is a valuable commodity and those who own these fields are quite wealthy. The crude oil used to produce gasoline that fuels our vehicles produces more than just fuel. There are actually 20 different products made from oil.
When I saw the field, I saw tapping into the source. The one who is tapped in at the source controls what is done with the product and sees when the well may beginning to dry up. Before the well goes dry, preparations have already been made to ensure that the flow of oil does not stop. Drilling has been done and a new well secured and ready to start production even before the original well stops. It continues to produce without ever causing a stoppage.
I had been living at the gas station, getting my fuel from a borrowed gas can. It's time I tapped into the source. I have to mine the oil field and establish my own well.
