When the world doesn't make sense, PRAY!
The past two days have been eventful to say the least. Two senseless tragedies within 100 miles of each other, both claiming innocent lives. All I can ask myself is why. What was the purpose?
The first event took place the farthest from me, right at 100 miles north of my location. A 28-year old former student of Covenant School walked into the hallways armed with three weapons and began to open fire on anyone in her path. Of course there is video surveillance of the incident, as well as police body-cam footage from when they engaged the suspect, but I will not watch it. The police said that the perpetrator had originally planned a different location but changed her mind because of the amount of security provided there. It's sad that she chose a private school with only locked doors for security as her target.
They say she identified as he and that he held a grudge against having been brought up in a Christian private school setting. What strikes me as odd about that is the fact that he waited ten years past his last day of school there. If it had been so bad, then why not do it while still a student? Other school shooters haven't waited till they were adults. Please don't take that statement as I condone school shootings, I don't. I just feel that this was a sorry excuse on this one.
Then Tuesday afternoon, in the city next to me where I have friends who are police officers, two officers were ambushed while answering a call for shots fired and subject down with a gun shot wound. Once they arrived on scene and began to render aid, the suspect opened fire on them while in the open from cover. Both were hit with the shots. One officer has sadly succumbed to his injuries while the second is fighting for his life. While these officers lay there bleeding out, waiting for help to arrive, neighbors were recording the events and posting them on social media. What is our would coming to?
I know that each day there is loss of life around the world, aome due to health, others old age, some due to accidents and some self-inflicted. What's sad is there are families mourning seven people right now that didn't have to die. Three innocent children who arrived at school on a Monday morning, excited to start their week of learning, who didn't make it home that night. A custodian who had spent years doing a job he loved, keeping a school clean and supplied while seeing the smiles on the childrens faces each day. Two other faculty members that had spent countless hours pouring knowledge into the minds of children, giving them the ability to have a brighter tomorrow. A young police officer who, by all accounts, did the job the right way. He served others and was willing to lay down his life for his communitity.
When the things around us just don't make sense, PRAY! This world needs Jesus now more than ever before.
Almighty God, I praise You for Who You are and all that You have done in my life. I repent, Lord, of my sinful ways. Cleanse me, God, that I may be pure before You. I don't understand why these tragedies have occurred, Lord, but in Your infinite wisdom, I know that you have a purpose. Lord, comfort the families of those who have lost loved ones, shelter them with Your peace. Wrap Your living arms around them, God, that they may feel You near to them in this time. Lord, we need revival in this land so that it can be healed. The anger and hostility amongst the people has overtaken even common sense. Lord, we need You, now more than ever before. Send the rain of Your Spirit upon this land. Wash it and cleanse it Lord, that we may once again worship You as a nation.
