Your Load will be much lighter

Many years ago, I was part of a choir which sang a song which contained the words "Your load will be much lighter when Jesus lifts the load." So often, we find ourselves laboring under a heaviness that we don't understand. We continue to cry out to God saying, "God, You said you would not give me more than I can bear. Why does it feel like the world is on my shoulders? Don't You care?" (See 1 Cor. 10:13)

Well, of course He cares. What 1 Corinthians is talking about is temptation, those things which are common unto all mankind. It is not talking about our burdens or the things of life which come at us on a daily basis. We all face these things. But there is a difference when we let Jesus lifts the load.

In society, we have what are called beasts of burden. These are such as horses, mules, and oxen which are yoked together to carry a heavier load. The yoke goes over the heads of the beast while the beam rests squarely upon the shoulders of the animal. This means that the 'team' must be the same height and near the same weight. If it is an unbalanced team, the load cannot be carried.

In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus speaks to us about carrying the load. He says, "Come into me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart:and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

You may be thinking, "It's still a burden. Why do I have to carry anything?" Well, in this world, we will have trials and temptations. We will be tested. It's how we respond in those trials, temptations and tests which define us. The Bible tells us to present our bodies as living sacrifices, wholly acceptable unto God. That is, we must lay down everything that we are trying to hold on the altar before Him to take His yoke on our shoulders. When we are burdened down with our own issues, we cannot be yoked with Jesus.

Trust me, my friend. When you lay down every weight that is holding you back and take the yoke of Jesus, your load will be much lighter
